603: This is the standard quick-release bracket — one-side release. The lock mechanism is a single dead-bolt that you operate to release the tripod from the bracket.

603-D: The “D” stands for Dual Quick Release. The bracket is similar but the lock can be released from either side of the bracket (i.e., two sides). This provides more flexibility in mounting orientation and access.

Practical implications

·         If you mount the tripod in a location that only allows access from one side (e.g., against a wall or in tight compartment where one side is blocked), then the 603 standard may suffice.

·         If the mounting location requires the ability to release the tripod from either side (for example long compartment, side access, or you want flexibility for operator access), the 603-D is the better choice.

·         The dual-release (603-D) may have slightly more hardware or a slightly different geometry to allow access from both sides — so when installing make sure clearances on both sides are available.

·         If you already have a 603 (single release) installed and find you need access from the opposite side, you might consider upgrading to the 603-D rather than retrofitting the single unit.
